Attempted murder suspect arrested after fleeing from Hollywood police, causing car crash

Suspect arrested after escape, vehicle crash in Hollywood police report

A 30‑year‑old man was arrested in Hollywood on Thursday night after a vehicle crash and shootings on Hallandale Beach Boulevard. Police said the suspect, Tyrell Anton Thomas, fled from officers after a shooting incident involving two beach victims. Witnesses reported Thomas had engaged in a quarrel around 7 p.m. at Douglas Street, retrieved a handgun from his car, and discharged it at two individuals who were not injured. He then returned to his vehicle, threatened a third person, and ignored police pursuit.

During the chase, Thomas attempted a high‑speed turn onto Hallandale Beach Boulevard, overshooting the median and striking several parked cars. Authorities recovered his vehicle at the intersection of South Ocean Drive and Hallandale Beach Boulevard and seized it without damage to life.

Thomas was taken into custody after a short foot chase. He faces charges including attempted murder, aggravated assault with a firearm, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, operating a vehicle while masked, fleeing and eluding, leaving the scene of a crash, and resisting arrest. As of Friday morning, he is held without bond at the Broward County Main Jail.
