The original “Top Gun” will be shown in theaters for its 40th‑anniversary release, beginning May 13. The movie, first premiered in 1986, will be screened for one week at AMC Theatres across the country. In addition to the 1986 film, the 2022 sequel “Top Gun: Maverick” will also be re‑screened for the milestone.

Both films opened to critical and commercial success. “Top Gun” became a box‑office hit in 1986, launching Tom Cruise’s career and boosting U.S. Navy recruitment. “Top Gun: Maverick” earned over $1 billion worldwide, received six Oscar nominations, and was a significant box‑office performer.

Paramount announced a third installment, “Top Gun 3,” during the recent CinemaCon event, though no release date has been confirmed. The announcement follows the recent re‑release of the original and sequel.

AMC is offering limited‑edition memorabilia, such as Maverick and Goose helmets and souvenir cups, to fans attending the anniversary screenings. Fans can visit local AMC locations to experience the films and related collectibles.
