Golden Globes enter the world of podcasts and tread carefully – NBC 6 South Florida

Annual entertainment awards begin digital audio project

The Golden Globes awarded its first best podcast category this year. Six nominees announced Monday include “Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard,” “Call Her Daddy,” “Good Hang with Amy Poehler,” “The Mel Robbins Podcast,” “SmartLess,” and NPR’s “Up First.”

Podcasts had to have at least six original episodes, each 30 minutes long, released between January 1, 2025, and September 30, 2025. The award recognizes quality, creativity, engagement, and impact.

Several political podcasts, including “The Megyn Kelly Show” and “The Joe Rogan Experience,” were not nominated. True crime series such as “Morbid” also excluded.

The award will be presented at the January 11, 2025, ceremony hosted by comedian Nikki Glaser. Three nominees originate from SiriusXM, while others are from Amazon, Spotify, and NPR.

Industry observers noted the inclusion signals growing prominence of podcasting. The category’s criteria focused on production quality and audience reach rather than content themes.
