Police arrest suspect after Fort Lauderdale carjacking and vehicle collision

A 27‑year‑old man was arrested on Friday in Fort Lauderdale after police said he had carjacked his former girlfriend in Plantation. Police responded at about 7:05 a.m. to a report of a carjacking near 1100 North University Drive. Authorities allege that the suspect, Anthony Torres Torrero, abused the victim and drove away in her vehicle.

Fort Lauderdale officers later located the car and attempted to stop it, but Torres Torrero accelerated and fled. The pursuit ended when he crashed into a fence and struck a parked car in the 600 block of Long Island Avenue, according to a Fort Lauderdale Police Department spokeswoman. K‑9 units helped locate him shortly after the crash.

Jail records indicate he faces charges of carjacking without a weapon, assault, fleeing and eluding, and driving without a valid license. The records also show outstanding warrants in Osceola County for false imprisonment and dating violence.

As of Saturday, Torres Torrero is being held without bond at the Broward County Main Jail.
