Miami volunteers plant hundreds of trees at Camp Mahachee.

United Way volunteers and local community members cleared a half‑day of work on Saturday at Camp Mahachee, a 11.5‑acre Girl Scouts site in Miami‑Dade County. The effort planted about 600 trees, contributing to the camp’s goal of 10,000 trees this year.

Corporate sponsors such as First Citizens Bank, Duane Morris, Native Tree Nursery, and Bank of America participated alongside county representatives, families, and children. The event was organized to enhance the camp’s ecosystem and create a resilient outdoor classroom for future generations.

The tree‑planting session lasted from morning until early afternoon, and the planting site will benefit wildlife, reduce erosion, and provide shade for the camp’s programming.

The Girl Scouts of Tropical Florida announced the project as part of an ongoing restoration initiative overseen by the organization. The organization maintains that the new trees will have lasting environmental benefits for the camp and surrounding community.
