Super Mario and Hail Mary Top Weekend Ticket Sales

The top‑grossing releases for the weekend were “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” and “Project Hail Mary.” Studio data show the Mario sequel earned $35 million, bringing its worldwide total to $747.5 million after its third consecutive number‑one weekend. “Project Hail Mary” generated $20.5 million, a 15 % drop from its previous week, and now collects $285.1 million domestically and $573.1 million worldwide.

The R‑rated horror film “Lee Cronin’s The Mummy” opened in 3,404 theaters, drawing $13.5 million and placing third in the domestic chart. The film, produced by Blumhouse and Atomic Monster, has a 45 % Rotten Tomatoes score and a CinemaScore of C+, and its worldwide gross has reached $34 million after earning $20.5 million overseas.

Other releases added modest amounts. “Normal,” a Bob Odenkirk action film, earned about $2.7 million; “Busboys,” a comedy featuring David Spade and Theo Von, took eighth place with $1.6 million. Limited‑release titles such as “Lorne” and “Mother Mary” collectively amassed under $300 k.

The overall North American box office for the weekend was up more than 16 % compared with the same period last year, a gain largely attributed to the continued performance of “Project Hail Mary.”
