Mom Assigns Each of Her Six Children a U.S. State Name.
A mother from Newport News, Virginia, named her six children after U.S. states: Nevada, Montana, Indiana, Arizona, Missouri, and Dakota. The choice was intended to give the children a shared identity and to inspire them to look beyond their immediate circumstances. The mother, Xaviera Greene‑Davis, has cited periods of incarceration as a reason for wanting a bond that would keep the siblings connected.
Since relocating to North Carolina, the family reports significant improvement in the children’s lives. All six have completed high school and are engaged in various professions. Montana, now 26, serves as a deputy sheriff. Nevada, 27, works for a restoration company. Indiana, 23, is a veterinary technician. Arizona, 21, operates as a 911 dispatcher. Missouri, 20, is employed at a daycare center, and Dakota, 18, plays football for Virginia State University.
The children have expressed pride in their state names, with Montana indicating she may use a similar naming convention for future children. The mother, 49, views the decision as a turning point that positively influenced her family’s trajectory.
