Man Identified as Zoe Charged With Shooting Apartment Resident in Florida.
A 34‑year‑old man, Mendez Nerette, was arrested near the intersection of Northwest 12th Street and Northwest Fifth Avenue in Florida City on Sunday evening. Police responded after 10 p.m. to reports of a shooting and found a man with chest and hand gunshot wounds on the ground. Emergency personnel treated the victim and transported him to Jackson South Medical Center.
Investigators recovered two spent .40‑caliber casings close to the abandoned apartment where the confrontation began. Nerette was identified as the suspect after he traveled to Doral and contacted authorities, offering to hand over a weapon he allegedly used.
In a statement, Nerette explained that a dispute started when another individual confronted him at a back door, accusing him of stealing a car and striking him with a baseball bat. Nerette said he fled, returned to the site, and the altercation escalated again, prompting him to fire two shots that hit the victim.
The Miami‑Dade State Attorney’s Office was notified, and the case was filed with a second‑degree attempted murder charge. As of the latest update, Nerette is being held without bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center and is prohibited from contacting the injured party.
