Betty Davis hosts fundraising event for cancer research in local community
Betty Davis, chief meteorologist for the local television station, has pledged to fundraise for Blood Cancer United through the Visionaries of the Year campaign. The fundraising effort runs from now through May 15 and focuses on research, patient advocacy, and education for blood‑cancer patients and families.
Davis said she considered the impact of cancer on her own relatives before accepting the nomination, noting her father survived bladder cancer and her sister’s mother‑in‑law died of acute myeloid leukemia. After confirming her participation, she received news that another family member had been diagnosed with cancer, prompting her to commit to the campaign.
The funds raised will support the nonprofit’s work in advancing treatments, influencing policy to protect patient access, and providing guidance to those affected. Viewers and community members can contribute through a dedicated donation link; the donation deadline is May 15.
The station has highlighted the nonprofit’s impact, and Davis expressed pride in helping an organization that effectively uses donated dollars.
