Officials say Daveigh Chase died from undisclosed illness
Former child actor Daveigh Chase, 35, was pronounced dead at a Los Angeles hospital on June 16.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner released a preliminary report that listed acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) as the cause of death, with chronic polysubstance use cited as a significant contributing factor.
Chase gained prominence for voicing Lilo in Disney’s 2002 film Lilo & Stitch and for portraying the ghost character Samara in the horror movie The Ring. Her performance earned her an MTV Movie Award for Best Villain.
Her television work included appearances on ER, Charmed, The Practice, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, and the animated series adaptation of Lilo & Stitch that aired from 2003 to 2006.
The actor’s father confirmed the death via text to NBC News, noting that Chase had been homeless and living near the hospital in Los Angeles.
