Wife Discusses Children Coping After James Ransone’s Passing
James Ransone, a 46‑year‑old actor known for his role in HBO’s series The Wire, died by suicide on December 19. Authorities confirmed his death after he was found missing following a telephone call to his girlfriend.
Ransone’s wife, Jamie McPhee, is managing life with their two children, Jack, 6, and Violet, 4. She has stated that she continues to care for them while navigating her own grief.
On December 23, McPhee posted a new image on Instagram showing the family visiting a mall after a park outing. The post described buying a pink backpack for Violet and building with Lego with Jack.
She noted that strangers at the mall recognized her but did not inappropriately comment on her husband’s death. The incident prompted her to reflect on people’s unseen struggles.
McPhee has spoken publicly about the impact of her husband’s passing on friends and family, encouraging the sharing of stories about him. She also reminded followers that support is available through the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline and related resources.
