Twista pleads guilty to not paying taxes, may face prison time – NBC 6 South Florida

Twista admits tax evasion and could face jail.

Chicago rap artist Carl Mitchell, known by his stage name Twista, entered a guilty plea in federal court in Chicago on Tuesday. The plea covers five counts of willful failure to file and pay income tax for the years 2019 through 2023, with the Internal Revenue Service reporting that the artist owes more than $440,000 in unpaid taxes.

Court filings indicate that the sentencing hearing is set for October 22, 2026, following the last‑week plea.

IRS criminal investigators documented that Mitchell had arranged advances on future royalties through a third‑party company, payments that the agency stated were not subject to levy. The investigation also highlighted tax liabilities that extend back to 2011 and noted that the artist has acquired at least four luxury vehicles during the period of non‑payment.

A representative for Mitchell has not yet responded to inquiries, and an IRS official from the Chicago field office noted that the agency will pursue all individuals who willfully avoid tax obligations, regardless of celebrity status.
