Prior to filming, Hunt discovered that her character, AJ Pascarelli, was written with a Boston accent. She expressed concern during an interview on The Kelly Clarkson Show.
Hunt reported consulting with Kaling, who indicated that the accent was not a major concern for the role. However, three days before production, a revised script highlighted the accent more prominently.
The new draft specified that the accent should emerge during moments of anger, which complicated Hunt’s preparation. She described the experience as stressful while practicing the accent.
After approximately three weeks of shooting, the production team decided the accent was unnecessary and removed it from the character. This change relieved Hunt and allowed the role to remain a standard American voice.
The series continues without the Boston accent, and Hunt noted that her portrayal will focus on an authentic American character. No further updates have been announced.
