Kevin Bacon Announces Upcoming Name Change, Explains His Motivations
Actor Kevin Bacon announced a temporary name change to “Bean” as part of a new marketing campaign launched in collaboration with Humane World for Animals. The campaign, called Beansday, encourages people to replace meat with beans on Wednesdays to benefit animals, the environment, and household budgets. Bacon appeared in a public‑service announcement wearing a suit made entirely of beans and explained that the switch is intended to draw attention to plant‑based diets.
The actor, who has been a longtime advocate for animal welfare, lives on a 40‑acre farm with his wife, Kyra Sedgwick, where he raises horses, goats, pigs, cows, and chickens. He has used his farm and his children’s presence in social media to highlight his love for animals and his interest in promoting compassionate eating.
Bacon stated that the “Bean” moniker is a humorous, short‑term gesture and that he has no intention of permanently changing his legal name. The initiative has been promoted on social media and through a televised PSA, with the actor emphasizing the broader impact of dietary choices on animal welfare and the planet.
