James Barker, executive producer of “Love Island USA,” died last week in Fiji, according to statements from ITV America and Peacock. The networks said the death followed an unexpected medical emergency but did not disclose a cause. Barker’s passing was noted during the show’s current Season 8, which is airing on Peacock.
Barker’s partner, Adam Roth, expressed grief in a statement to NBC News, describing the producer as a “light and love” of his life and commenting on their shared love of live music. Roth recalled meeting Barker at a Billie Eilish concert and highlighted his commitment to supporting young musicians on the program.
Barker began working on “Love Island USA” in 2020 as a story producer and served as executive producer for the last three seasons. His duties included overseeing production and the show’s soundtrack. Prior to joining Peacock, he produced series such as “Counting Cars,” “Forged in Fire,” “Pawn Stars,” and “Queer Eye.”
The networks released a joint condolence, praising Barker’s kindness, talent, and dedication, and offered heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues.
