Veteran Voice Actor Tom Kane Passes Away at 64

Tom Kane, 64, died Monday in a Kansas City hospital after complications from a stroke suffered in 2020. The actor was from Overland Park, Kansas, and was surrounded by family at the time of his death, according to a statement from his representative Zachary McGinnis. Kane had a career spanning more than two decades, with notable work in the “Star Wars” franchise and in animated television.

Kane’s first major voice role with Lucasfilm was in the 1996 video game “Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire.” He later voiced iconic characters such as Yoda and C‑3PO in the 2003 “Star Wars: Clone Wars 2D” series and served as the narrator for “Star Wars: The Clone Wars.” His voice also appeared in various other “Star Wars” titles, including video games and LEGO releases.

In television, Kane voiced Professor Utonium in Cartoon Network’s “The Powerpuff Girls” from 2016 to 2019. Cartoon Network honored him with a tribute that highlighted his contribution to the show’s legacy.

Kane was married to Cindy Roberts and had nine children, three biological and six adopted or fostered. His passing was met with condolences from colleagues, including Lucasfilm’s Dave Filoni, who praised his impact on the franchise.
