A 40‑year‑old investor from Pinecrest, James Bailey, admitted responsibility for a hit‑and‑run that occurred on December 15 in Coral Gables. The incident involved a California tourist, Jonathan King, who was struck while crossing at Douglas Road and Giralda Avenue. Bailey was driving an Audi when the collision occurred and later fled the scene.
Bailey entered a plea of guilty to a reduced misdemeanor of leaving the scene of a crash that caused property damage and to a charge of resisting arrest. The court imposed one year of probation, credit for time served, and required him to attend high‑risk traffic school, participate in a victim impact panel, and complete 50 hours of community service. The resisting arrest charge was held with withheld adjudication, while the hit‑and‑run conviction was not.
Following the arrest, King filed a civil claim against Bailey and his wife, model and actress Devon Aoki, who owns the vehicle involved. A court filing indicated that the parties settled and the lawsuit was dismissed. No further details have been released.
