Surfside voters re-elect Shlomo Danzinger as mayor.
Surfside, Fla., announced the results of a special mayoral election held on Tuesday. Shlomo Danzinger, the former mayor, won 50.54% of the vote, defeating Vice Mayor Tina Paul by 22 ballots. The narrow margin confirms Danzinger’s return to office, replacing current Mayor Charles Burkett, who had served the town for a third term after defeating Danzinger in the 2024 election.
The special election was scheduled for April 7 following the initial March contest, in which neither candidate secured a majority. A judge extended the mail‑in ballot deadline to Tuesday to accommodate a Passover holiday conflict. Voter turnout remained high, with nearly 50% of the town’s residents identified as Jewish.
Official election materials report the final vote totals and certify Danzinger as the winner. The city council will confirm his certification next week, following standard procedural steps. No further action is pending, and city services continue as normal.
