West Miami and Bay Harbor Islands Hold Local Elections Today
West Miami held elections on Tuesday, with the mayoral contest and several city commission seats on the ballot. Incumbent mayor Eric Diaz‑Padron was re‑elected with 70.85% of the vote, defeating former city manager Yolanda Aguilar.
Commission Seat 1 was secured by Gustavo “Gus” Ceballos, who earned 74.62% of the votes over George A. Lavin. Seat 2 went to Juan M. Blanes with 71.46% of the ballots, defeating Fermin J. Belleau. For Seat 4, Victoria de la Torre received 70.79% of the vote, defeating Elsa Pelaez‑Lopez.
In Bay Harbor Islands, a town council election took place. Elchonon Shagalov was elected, winning 54.73% of the vote to Gustavo Ortega’s 45.27%.
These results were certified by the Miami‑Dade County election office on the same day. The elections included all prescribed positions for both municipalities, and the outcomes were announced shortly after the polls closed.
