Danny Glover reveals Alzheimer’s diagnosis – NBC 6 South Florida

Actor Danny Glover publicly announces Alzheimer’s diagnosis

Actor Danny Glover, 79, disclosed in a July 1 interview that he has been living with Alzheimer’s disease for several years. The announcement was made during a segment on the TODAY program.

Symptoms described include slowed movements, speech and memory, although Glover remains active in community events around San Francisco. He continues to attend public appearances despite limitations caused by the disease.

Glover cited strong family support and the desire to control his narrative as reasons for speaking publicly. His daughter, Mandisa, emphasized the importance of transparency to reduce stigma.

The Alzheimer’s Association, which collaborated with Glover, notes that more than 7 million Americans over age 65 have the disease and that black Americans are twice as likely to develop dementia. They recommend early detection, regular physical activity, blood‑pressure management, adequate sleep, and social interaction as preventive measures.

Glover has earned four Emmys and accumulated more than 170 film and television credits, including a leading role in the “Lethal Weapon” franchise. His career began in the early 20s with San Francisco State and expanded into internationally recognized roles.
