Rob Lowe reveals plans to produce a sequel to St. Elmo’s Fire.
During a recent appearance on a daytime talk show, actor Rob Lowe confirmed that a sequel to the 1985 film “St. Elmo’s Fire” is officially in development. His comments came after the film celebrated its 40th anniversary, when Sony Pictures and Columbia Pictures released a remastered 4K version in select theaters nationwide. Lowe said that a script is currently being written and that the project is a priority for him.
The original movie followed a group of college graduates adjusting to career and relationship challenges, a storyline that has earned the film cult status. Lowe expressed enthusiasm about revisiting the story because of its lasting appeal to audiences that still identify with the themes of early adulthood.
In addition to discussing the sequel, Lowe recounted a production anecdote from his time in the original film. He explained that the saxophone performance credited to him was achieved by removing a reed and using the proper posture to create a realistic appearance. The segment was highlighted during his recent interview on a popular podcast.
