Miami Beach resident details knife attack during Memorial Day celebrations
A 18‑year‑old Miami‑Dade County man was arrested Sunday on Miami Beach after a confrontation with a beachgoer during Memorial Day. Police reports say the incident began when the accused, Misael Algel Aguilar Santurio, threw sand at a group of friends. The victim, Yarielys Riobo, countered, prompting Aguilar Santurio to brandish a pocket knife and chase her across the sand.
Riobo claimed she felt threatened, stating she only backed away while observing the man. Two members of the group tackled Aguilar Santurio and a third seized the knife before authorities arrived. The suspect was taken into custody by officers on the beach.
Aguilar Santurio now faces charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and resisting an officer without violence. The case remains open, with further investigative steps pending.
