Miami airport builds 33‑million‑dollar operations hub in 2024
Miami-Dade County announced the planning of a new operations center at Miami International Airport. The facility will cost $33 million and is expected to open in 2027.
Designed to enhance emergency response, the 13,254‑square‑foot building will feature advanced surveillance equipment, including AI‑powered pan‑tilt‑zoom cameras and real‑time digital tower technology. A large high‑definition panoramic video wall will provide integrated visual coverage across the airport environment.
The center is intended to serve as a hub for 30 local and federal agencies, improving coordination and efficiency. Officials expect that during any emergency, representatives from these agencies will convene within the new facility.
Miami International Airport’s director and CEO, Ralph Cutié, described the project as “the nerve center” for airport operations. Mayor Daniella Levine Cava emphasized the importance of the facility for unified emergency management. The project remains under development, with formal construction timelines to be released by city authorities.
