Miami Gardens distributes meals as U.S. 250th anniversary approaches
Hundreds of families gathered at a parking lot in Miami Gardens on Saturday for a food distribution event. The distribution was held in partnership between Good Neighbor Day America and the Miami Gardens campus of VOUS Church. The event took place as part of a national effort to complete 250 million acts of kindness on America’s 250th anniversary.
Locals lined up to receive bags of food as volunteers drove and unloaded vehicles around the parking area. The church’s outreach program has held several food distributions this year; the current event marked the third.
Pastor Katharine Canals, who directs outreach at VOUS, noted that the monthly “I Love My City” program aims to increase the frequency of food distributions in the future. The venue hopes to move toward weekly distributions once resources allow.
A total of more than 300 families departed with food to take home. The event was organized by volunteer staff and community supporters, and the distribution was carried out without incident or reported complications.
