North Miami victim recovers after machete assault
Police entered a Northeast 142nd Street and Sixth Avenue block in North Miami on Sunday afternoon after receiving a call about a potential machete assault. Officers arrived to find Bryant Toletino, the alleged victim, bleeding heavily from an arm injury while holding a second man at a fence. The suspect, 31‑year‑old Ariel Alvarez, was present and reportedly had a history of knowing Toletino within the neighborhood.
Surveillance footage captured the altercation, contradicting Alvarez’s claim that he was acting in self‑defense. The video shows him attacking Toletino with a machete and then attempting to restrain the victim against a fence. Authorities said the two had been conversing when the incident escalated.
Alvarez faces a felony charge of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. He is currently detained at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. His bail amount has not been set, and he is also subject to an immigration hold.
The case remains under investigation by local police, and no further statements have been released at this time.
