Charter boat blast pulls 11 residents into hospitals near Haulover™

Miami‑Dade Fire Rescue (M‑DFR) responded to a boat explosion near Haulover Sandbar Saturday afternoon. Eleven people were transported to hospitals after the incident. The craft, a charter vessel, was receiving passengers for a Mother’s Day weekend celebration. Firefighters reported burn injuries and some traumatic injuries among the evacuees.

At around 12:50 p.m., more than 25 M‑DFR units, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officers and U.S. Coast Guard personnel arrived at the scene. Battalion Chief Juan Arias stated that injuries included burns and some trauma.

Victims were taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center, where Adriana Rojas was treated for second‑degree burns on her lower and upper body. Anthony Torres, Rojas’s husband, was also hospitalized.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission confirmed the incident involved a charter vessel in Biscayne Bay and that the explosion’s cause remains under investigation.
