Miami-Dade honors 171 fallen officers, names two new memorial plaques
Families and law‑enforcement officers from the entire Miami‑Dade County region assembled on Thursday evening at a memorial dedicated to South Florida officers who have fallen in the line of duty. The ceremony was held in Miami and recognized 171 officers whose names are engraved on the memorial wall.
For the first time this year, the wall was expanded to include two additional officers: David Cajuso and Devin Jaramillo. Both lost their lives in the fall of 2025. Cajuso, a motorman for the Miami Beach Police Department, died when he lost control of his motorcycle on Interstate 75 near Hialeah while heading to work. Jaramillo, a deputy with the Miami‑Dade Sheriff’s Office, was shot during an assignment at a minor traffic collision, and investigators determined the suspect used his own service weapon to kill the deputy.
Attendees included the families of the fallen officers. Cajuso’s widow, Eileen, spoke about her grief and her experience at previous memorials. Jaramillo’s parents and siblings shared remarks about his dedication to policing and his character.
The memorial event was organized by county officials and served to honor the service and sacrifice of all officers who have died while protecting the community.
