Rebecca Crews Confirms Living With Parkinson’s Disease
Rebecca King Crews, 60, revealed that she has Parkinson’s disease and that she recently underwent a bilateral focused‑ultrasound procedure, a new FDA‑approved treatment for advanced Parkinson’s. The procedure was performed on March 4 2024 and used the Exablate Neuro system to target specific brain areas while guided by MRI imaging.
King Crews first noticed symptoms in 2012, including numbness in her left foot and tremors, and was formally diagnosed in 2015 after a neurologist confirmed the condition. The tremors, which interfered with daily tasks, were the most disabling symptom.
Following the surgery, she reported that the tremor on her right side had disappeared and her balance had improved, allowing her to walk normally. She was able to write with her right hand for the first time in three years. Although the treatment reduced her medication needs, symptoms on the left side persisted, so a second procedure on the left side is planned for September 2024.
The treatment does not cure Parkinson’s but offers immediate symptom relief for patients who decline or cannot undergo deep brain stimulation. King Crews confirmed that she is currently in recovery and continuing to drive, play piano, and attend acting classes.
