Kanye West plans meeting with British Jewish community.
Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, said he is willing to meet members of the British Jewish community after mounting backlash over his planned headline slot at the Wireless Festival. The statement was released on Tuesday, amid growing calls from politicians and community leaders for the U.K. government to bar him from the country.
The festival, scheduled for July 10‑12 in Finsbury Park, has faced criticism because of Ye’s prior antisemitic remarks, a song titled “Heil Hitler,” and the sale of swastika‑emblazoned T‑shirts. Four festival sponsors, including Pepsi, have separated themselves from the event.
A senior British government official confirmed that ministers were reviewing Ye’s entry status. Ye’s organizers, Festival Republic, have not commented. The Board of Deputies of British Jews stated that the community would require genuine remorse before meeting him, and a meeting would be arranged only if he agreed not to perform at the festival.
Health Secretary Wes Streeting urged that Ye’s set be canceled, citing the festival organizer’s “terrible error of judgement.” Prime Minister Keir Starmer previously criticized the decision to invite Ye as a headliner.
