Atlantic coast wind company files lawsuit against former president’s administration
Developers of five offshore wind projects filed a lawsuit to reverse a Trump administration order that halted construction. Dominion Energy Virginia and partners in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, and New York are among the applicants. The suit was lodged on Tuesday in the Eastern District of Virginia.
Dominion contends the order is arbitrary and unconstitutional. It says its Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind project is essential to meet rising energy demands from new data centers.
The Interior Department offered no detail on the security concerns. A letter from the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management gave developers 90 days to determine whether risks can be mitigated.
The projects include Vineyard Wind, Revolution Wind, Sunrise Wind, and Empire Wind. Governors in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, and New York have pledged to challenge the decision.
U.S. District Judge Jamar Walker has scheduled a hearing for 2 p.m. Monday, as Dominion seeks a temporary restraining order to lift the halt.
