James Ransone, 46, former “The Wire” actor, passes away after suicide

James Ransone, a 46‑year‑old American actor, died on Friday. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner reported the death as likely suicide.

Ransone was best known for playing Ziggy Sobotka on The Wire. He also portrayed Eddie Kaspbrak in the horror film It: Chapter Two.

His other television work includes Generation Kill, Bosch, and a 2025 appearance in Poker Face season two. His film credits include the Sinister franchise, Tangerine, Mr. Right, and the Black Phone series.

Ransone said attending an arts school helped him adapt to school life. He later enrolled in a film program in New York, but left after missing classes.

Ransone is survived by his wife, Jamie McPhee. The couple had two children.

Reps were contacted for comment, but no reply has yet been received. The Medical Examiner’s findings remain the only official update.
