Cold Front Brings Chilly Weather to South Florida Residents This Week

A cold front is expected to move through South Florida on Monday, bringing strong northwesterly winds and a significant drop in temperature. The region can expect temperatures to dip as low as the upper 30s in Palm Beach County and low 40s in coastal areas of Broward and Miami-Dade counties by Tuesday morning.

Inland areas, particularly those near Lake Okeechobee, may experience even colder temperatures, potentially reaching the mid-30s. This cold snap comes after the region experienced near-record high temperatures on Sunday.

The National Weather Service has forecasted the cold front, which is expected to bring a brief but intense period of cold weather. The agency notes that this type of cold front is not uncommon for this time of year, but the strength and amount of cold air are relatively rare.

The cold weather is expected to be short-lived, with temperatures beginning to rise on Tuesday night and reaching the mid-70s by Wednesday. Residents are advised to be aware of the potential for falling iguanas, as the cold weather can immobilize the non-native species, causing them to fall from trees.

The Weather Service has not indicated that the cold front will break any records, as the average low temperature for this time of year is around 70 degrees in Fort Lauderdale and 68 degrees in West Palm Beach. The record low for November 11 in Fort Lauderdale was 41 degrees, set in 1913, while in West Palm Beach it was 42 degrees, also set in 1913.
