Republican head pursues legal action against couple in sex abuse case

The House Oversight Committee chairman, Republican James Comer of Kentucky, warned Friday that contempt proceedings may be initiated against former President Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton if they do not attend scheduled depositions related to the investigation of Jeffrey Epstein. Comer cited repeated delays in setting testimony dates over several months.

This announcement occurred shortly after committee Democrats published photographs from Epstein’s estate, which included images of both Clinton and current President Donald Trump.

Bill Clinton had prior associations with Epstein but has not faced any accusations of wrongdoing from Epstein’s alleged victims. Virginia Giuffre, one identified victim, previously recounting interactions involving Clinton and Trump, later withdrew those statements as inaccuracies.

Contempt proceedings would mark a rare congressional action, as no former U.S. president has previously been compelled to testify. The development coincides with an approaching deadline for the Justice Department to release case files concerning Epstein.
