Fire and Ash earns $88M in US, $345M worldwide.
“Avatar: Fire and Ash” premiered on Friday and earned $88 million domestically and $257 million internationally, for a $345 million opening worldwide. The total places it as the second‑largest opening of 2025 after “Zootopia 2,” which generated $497 million over the same period.
The new film is the third installment in James Cameron’s franchise, which began in 2009 with a $77 million domestic launch that grew to a $2.92 billion world total. “The Way of Water,” released in 2022, opened to $134 million in North America and $435 million worldwide, the previous film’s domestic take. “Fire and Ash” has a Rotten Tomatoes score of 68 percent and received an “A” CinemaScore from audiences.
Premium formats accounted for two‑thirds of the opening weekend’s revenue, and 56 percent of viewers chose 3D. China supplied the strongest market, with $57.6 million on opening weekend, surpassing earlier Avatar entries.
Other wide releases debuted with the film, including Angel Studio’s “David” ($22 million), Lionsgate’s “The Housemaid” ($19 million), and Paramount’s “The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants” ($16 million). The holiday season will see new releases such as A24’s “Marty Supreme,” Focus Features’ “Song Sung Blue,” and Sony’s “Anaconda.”
