Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel’s job may not be safe after all

Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel faces potential job change.

The Miami Dolphins were defeated 45‑21 by the Cincinnati Bengals Sunday night at Hard Rock Stadium. The loss prompted media outlets to examine the future of the team’s head coach, Mike McDaniel.

One report on Monday from NFL Network indicated that McDaniel was expected to remain on the roster for the 2026 season and that owner Stephen Ross had already extended an offer. A second report from ESPN said no decision had been finalized and that the situation was still unfolding.

McDaniel has declined to confirm any definitive communication from Ross. In his post‑game remarks, he said he does not consider the job status of his own position and focuses on coaching duties.

Regarding player health, safety Minkah Fitzpatrick is listed as week‑to‑week after a calf injury sustained on December 15 and is unlikely to return for Sunday’s final home game. Guard James Daniels, who has been on injured reserve since a season‑opening tear of his Achilles tendon, is not expected back for the final two games. Receiver and return specialist Dee Eskridge exited the game early with a toe injury, and his recovery timeline has not yet been clarified.

The NFL will release Pro Bowl rosters on Tuesday. Candidates from the Dolphins include running back De’Von Achane, linebacker Jordyn Brooks, center Aaron Brewer, and punter Jake Bailey.
