Chip LaMarca’s move to Fort Lauderdale raises political chatter

Chip LaMarca moves to Fort Lauderdale, sparking political discussion.

State Representative Chip LaMarca and wife Eileen have temporarily moved into a rental in Fort Lauderdale’s Coral Ridge while their 75‑year‑old Lighthouse Point home undergoes renovation. They remain on their original address for voter registration.

The LaMarcas have lived in Lighthouse Point for over 25 years. The rental is chosen for convenience during construction and has no political intent.

LaMarca served on the Fort Lauderdale City Commission, Broward County Commission, and now the Florida House. He is term‑limited and will leave office after the 2026 elections.

Because mayoral contests in Fort Lauderdale are nonpartisan, LaMarca has been mentioned as a potential 2028 candidate. He has said the move is unrelated to a campaign.

LaMarca remains the sole Republican in Broward counties’ partisan offices, having previously chaired the Broward Republican Party. He will not seek reelection for the House.

At a Tower Forum luncheon in downtown Fort Lauderdale, LaMarca confirmed he will not run again for the House and noted the 2026 legislative session will face an election year dynamic. The discussion highlighted concerns about the timing of the election year.
