Bowen Yang get emotional in final ‘SNL’ episode – NBC 6 South Florida

Bowen Yang expresses heartfelt moments during SNL finale

Bowen Yang’s final appearance on Saturday Night Live aired on Christmas Eve, December 27 2025. The episode concluded with a closing number that featured Yang in a mock airport‑lounge setting, delivering eggnog to travelers and singing “Please Come Home for Christmas.” Host Ariana Grande and musical guest Cher joined him, and the performance ended with a tribute to the late director Rob Reiner.

During the sketch, Yang hinted that he wanted to enjoy the show for a little longer; he was visibly moved by the audience applause. The finale included a brief curtain call and a photo montage honoring Reiner, after which Yang and Grande shared a friendly hug.

Yang joined SNL as a writer in 2018, became a featured player the following season, and earned a full cast spot in 2020. He has received five Emmy nominations for his work.

This departure follows mid‑season exits by other cast members such as Ego Nwodim and Heidi Gardner. Yang had previously discussed leaving with creator Lorne Michaels; the decision was formally announced by NBC.

The network confirmed no additional negotiations are pending, and the final episode aired live with the farewell sketches, audience applause, and a tribute montage.
