Jeffrey Epstein Investigation Timeline: Pressing

On July 12, 2025, the Department of Justice announced it would release documents on Jeffrey Epstein under the new Transparency Act.

The act requires disclosure of records on Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell by a specified deadline.

Epstein first came to police attention in 2005 after a 14‑year‑old girl reported abuse at his Palm Beach home. He pleaded guilty in 2008, receiving 18 months in prison and agreeing to a non‑prosecution agreement.

Federal prosecutors reopened charges in 2019, arresting Epstein on sex‑trafficking counts. He died by suicide in his New York jail cell on August 10, 2019.

Ghislaine Maxwell was charged in 2020, convicted in December 2021 on sex‑trafficking and related crimes, and sentenced to 20 years in June 2022.

The DOJ plans a rolling release of documents beginning in December 2025 and confirms it has no “client list” to publish. Officials will continue
