Rich McGeorge Dies at 77 After Coaching Dolphins
Rich McGeorge, a former assistant offensive line coach for the Miami Dolphins, died on Saturday at the age of 77. The National Football Foundation confirmed the death, noting his passing in Durham, North Carolina.
McGeorge was on the Dolphins coaching staff from 1993 through 1999. His tenure encompassed the final three seasons under Hall‑of‑Fame head coach Don Shula and the first four seasons under Coach Jimmy Johnson, during a period of transition for the franchise.
Before coaching, he played college football at Elon University in North Carolina. In 1970, he was selected by the Green Bay Packers in the first round of the NFL Draft, and his college performance later earned him induction into the College Football Hall of Fame.
During his nine-year NFL playing career with the Packers, McGeorge started 101 games. He earned a reputation for durability and leadership on the offensive line.
After retiring as a player, McGeorge moved into coaching and joined the Dolphins in 1993. He contributed to the development of the team’s offensive line for six seasons, leaving a legacy respected in both college and professional football.
